LN UK Rule of Law: Our Newest Partnership with the Human Dignity Trust

We are delighted to announce we will be providing the Human Dignity Trust with free access to LN content in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, US, and Pacific.

About the Human Dignity Trust – protecting LGBT human rights

The Human Dignity Trust are an incredible charity, formed by passionate lawyers and techies, delivering pro bono technical legal backing to lawyers and human rights defenders globally, who are seeking to decriminalise homosexuality. It was a fantastic collaborative achievement between various teams, in particular Legal, Marketing, Product Adoption, Customer Services and New Product Development.

Their CEO Jonathon Cooper QC, some of you may recognise is a HLE author, was impressed by James Harper’s talk at a Rule of Law event last year and contacted him directly to explore possibilities.

Their aim is to uphold the Rule of Law by challenging the constitutionality of laws that arbitrarily criminalise consensual same-sex relations, and remove fundamental human rights protections from LGBT people. Several countries retain the death penalty for consensual same-sex sexual conduct between adults. The Human Dignity Trust are actively working to change that, and we are helping them achieve their goals.

Their previous work on LGBT freedom of association

Prior to our association with them, and as an example of their work, they developed the legal submissions for a case in Kenya that used comparative law from across Africa and globally. Much of this was referred to by the three judges of the constitutional bench that ruled in favour of LGBT freedom of association, and the comparative Commonwealth case law provided by HDT was heavily cited in the judgment and clearly strongly influential.

They are a tremendous force for good, hugely influential, and we're honoured to be able to help them. But it doesn't stop there; they are already proving to be a pleasure to work with, and have provided us with some inspirational challenges for our upcoming Hackathon event: Hack the Change event. This is just the beginning.
