UK Legal Briefs Mexican Government

The Mexican Government recently sent a delegation of representatives to the UK for a series of meetings and events on the Rule of Law.

As part of this, and following on from successful work with a number of bodies in the last year (including the Law Society), James Harper was asked to speak to the group on the Rule of Law, LexisNexis’s global strategy, and the importance of engaging the business community.  The group including a Congressman, advisors to the Minister of the Interior, judges, the head of the Attorney General’s office, and other senior civil servants, plus one of the heads of the police force.

In a wide ranging discussion, James spoke about the importance of the Rule of Law to LexisNexis (and how it is at the heart of our strategy around the world), and its importance for economic prosperity, noting the virtually unbroken link between respect for the Rule of Law and national GDP growth.  The group then discussed the importance of engaging both the legal and the business community in Rule of Law efforts, but doing so in a way which did not exempt or excuse the state from also playing its part: collaborative efforts with like-minded advocates is likely to be far more successful than either group acting alone.

This was a fantastic event and, as the only commercial body asked to address the group, it is clear that LexisNexis stands out among our peers – in our markets and beyond – as a company that truly makes a difference on this vital topic.
