LexisNexis Strong Commitment to the Rule of Law at Global Associations Events

The strong commitment of LexisNexis to advancing the rule of law across the globe was showcased at two recent major global association conferences held in Washington, D.C.

The week’s events kicked off with LexisNexis Legal & Professional CEO Mike Walsh presenting our rule of law story at the Lex Mundi North American Regional Conference to a packed room of 200 lawyers from the world’s leading independent law firms, whose clients include many of the largest multi-national corporations. Included in Mike’s presentation was a video featuring various rule of law initiatives and the incredible work of LexisNexis employees around the world: here.

Our role as a thought leader and partner with the International Bar Association (IBA) on the rule of law was also very evident throughout the week long IBA Annual Conference, with the LexisNexis leadership and IBA President David Rivkin (Debevoise & Plimpton, NY) co-presenting three high profile awards during the event, to outstanding lawyers, dedicated to advancing the rule of law:

IBA Pro Bono & Access to Justice award honoree, Odette Geldenhuys, South Africa – for a long standing dedication and commitment to fighting for the poor in South Africa

Rachel Travers, LexisNexis VP Lexis Practice Advisor & Analytical commented, “The stories of the previous winners’ of the IBA Outstanding Young Lawyers award I spoke to were inspirational in terms of what they have achieved for charitable and Rule of Law purposes in their (short!) careers. There was also very genuine and frequently emphasized support for LexisNexis efforts in Rule of Law by other speakers, in addition to reflections on our warm and positive relationship with the IBA that clearly goes well beyond the commercial.”

IBA Human Rights award honoree, Galina Arapova, Russia – for human rights efforts defending freedom of expression and freedom of speech, and providing training for judges and lawyers in Russia
