Practical Guidance® Writers Showcase

Practical Guidance invites transactional specialists to write articles about the latest practice area trends or issues.

Practical Guidance® is showcasing articles from transactional practice area specialists and you’re invited to submit a piece for publication that reflects your practice area expertise. For example, what are the latest trends and issues you’re seeing in your practice? Would you like to share your point of view? Do you have advice for those who encounter the same issues? If you’re interested in submitting an article for consideration, please follow the guidelines below.

Guidelines for submitting articles.

  • Articles should range from 1,200 to 1,600 words in length.
  • Article subject matter should be on a current topic related to your practice area with practical information. The article must offer original analysis rather than itemized summaries of policies/regulations. Word style should be non-technical avoiding “legalese” and the article should be written for a non-specialist lawyer who would benefit from the information contained in your article. Bullet points are not preferable and short paragraphs and sentences are preferred.
  • The author should provide at least five keywords and a one-sentence description of the article which will facilitate web searching when the article is uploaded to Practical Guidance’s web page. The submission must also include a brief bio of each author, including name, title, office, firm and email address.
  • Due to the number of submissions, there is no guaranty that the editorial board will commit to the publication of any article. Furthermore, the editorial board may withdraw an article previously selected for publication, delay publication of a selected article, or reschedule a selected article at the editorial board’s sole and absolute discretion.
  • Practical Guidance reserves the right to modify or otherwise change the title of any article accepted for publication and to edit the text of the article at its sole and absolute discretion.
  • As a general rule, Practical Guidance does not accept articles that have been published elsewhere. The article must not have been previously published. Once published in Practical Guidance, an article cannot be republished in another media outlet (not including your firm's website/marketing materials) for a period of twelve months. Authors of accepted articles are required to sign a publication agreement, which includes the author’s warranty that the work is original and does not infringe on the rights of others and that there is no included material in the article that is in violation of any rights of any other person or entity. If an article covers any ongoing litigation or dispute in which your firm is involved (directly or indirectly), your firm's involvement must be fully disclosed within the article and in a paragraph at the end of the article. If an article discusses any case involving your firm's clients (directly or indirectly), your firm's involvement must be fully disclosed in a paragraph at the end of the article.
  • While the author retains copyright to his or her article, LexisNexis reserves the right to republish parts or all of an article indefinitely without any royalty payments. We do not pay for guest articles, nor do we charge for publishing in Practical Guidance.
