An owner of an excavation business slipped in January 1999, did the splits, and had a groin injury that changed his life. He had been self-employed for about 20 years.Claimant, 63, sought emergency room treatment for high flow priapism. Priapism is a persistent and painful long-lasting erection. Claimant tried any number of things to solve the problem, and ultimately his urologist, Dr. Johnson, suggested he needed a penile implant. He eventually required two further surgeries in 2009 and 2010 because of defects and problems with the devices. The whole situation made him depressed.The Commission affirmed an award of total disability. No reasonable employer would expect to hire someone if he hurt too much and was too depressed to show up on time.
