This position is located at the Headquarters for Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) in Falls Church, Virginia.
As Director, Executive Office for Immigration Review, the incumbent has the full-delegated authority of the Attorney General to manage all aspects of EOIR operations. The Director is supported by a Deputy Director, to whom the Director may delegate authority. The Deputy Director and senior advisors in the Office of the Director provide for the day-to-day supervision and management of the heads of the EOIR components and all agency personnel in the execution of their duties. The direction, supervision, and final action in all matters relating to budget formulation and control, administration, personnel, operation and management of the functions of the Executive Office for Immigration Review rests with the Director.The Director represents the position and policies of the Executive Office to the Attorney General, the Associate Attorney General, members of Congress and other governmental bodies, the press, the bar, and private non-profit groups interested in immigration matters.The Director serves as principal staff officer to the Associate Attorney General with respect to the Board and Immigration Judge matters, including the processing of all recommendations for appointments; and sets policies and goals for the Executive Office for Immigration Review, including the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge.In addition, the Director:-Formulates, promulgates, and implements Division-wide policies intended to realize EOIR and Department goals through sound and comprehensive management programs;-Serves as an advocate for the EOIR's programs and resources needs with various external groups, e.g., the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and senior officials of the Department's Justice Management Division;-Provides overall executive policy and general management and administrative guidance and coordination under delegated authority of the Attorney General of the United States, EOIR administers and interprets Federal immigration laws and regulations through the conduct of immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings in individual cases.As Counselor, the Director of EOIR :-Provides legal advice and assistance on topics of concern to the Attorney General. The assignments are often confidential and require an intimate knowledge of various fields of law. As a recognized legal expert, the incumbent provides counsel on a regular basis to the Attorney General on a variety of important and sensitive issues.-Serves as the Attorney General's representative in meetings and conferences outlining policies or program objectives of the Attorney General and bringing back to the Attorney General personally, viewpoints, statements of positions, etc., of conferees.-Writes legal reports setting forth findings and recommending courses of action to be followed to resolve problems presented incident to the various assignments performed.
