"Four national immigration experts will discuss the changing landscape of border law and policies at a free Dec. 6 webinar sponsored by the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration. The program will also introduce an updated ABA primer on border enforcement.
The webinar will offer information on current enforcement methods, including the new, abbreviated removal process dubbed Circumvention of Lawful Pathways. Experts will explain evolving border policies and rules that are often complex and opaque.
What: A free webinar, “Immigration Enforcement Mechanisms at the U.S. Southwest Border: The Only Constant is Change”
When: Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, from 2-3:30 p.m. EST
Speakers:
The 39-page handbook – “Primer: Immigration Enforcement Mechanisms at the U.S. Border” – has been updated since its initial release in 2022. It explains methods used by the federal government to enforce immigration law at the U.S. southern border, with citations to applicable laws, policies, court decisions and recent developments.
The primer includes a look at current policies, such as expedited removal, credible fear interviews and the family group dedicated docket. It also covers prior enforcement policies, such as metering, the Migrant Protection Protocols, Title 42 and the third country asylum rule, plus non-immigration border procedures like Operation Lone Star.
The primer is available for free here. Webinar registration is available here. For more information on the ABA Commission on Immigration, journalists may contact Shanda Ivory at Shanda.Ivory@americanbar.org."
