April 28, 2023 (1 min read)
Date & Time: May 2, 2023 11:00 AM  in  Mountain Time (US and Canada)

Description: Even before Title 42, the government was illegally turning back asylum seekers at ports of entry. Under a practice called “metering,” border officials told asylum seekers that the ports“were full” and refused to inspect and process them, forcing them to wait in Mexico. The American Immigration Council and our partners filed a case against this practice in Al Otro Lado v. Mayorkas. Join the Council and our partners, the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies and the Southern Poverty Law Center, for a webinar that will discuss the case and cover frequently asked questions about the court’s permanent injunction, which restored asylum eligibility for certain individuals turned back at ports of entry before July 2019. During the webinar, we will discuss:  Metering, the 2019 Third-Country Asylum Ban, and the lawsuit.  Options for relief for clients both inside and outside of the U.S.  Frequently asked questions about the district court’s orders and permanent injunction.
