A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging a law enacted earlier this year in Utah (SB 287) requiring porn websites to verify the age of their users. U.S. District Court Judge Ted Stewart said the Free Speech Coalition, the adult entertainment industry trade group that filed the challenge, couldn’t sue Utah officials because the law doesn’t direct them to pursue violators but instead allows state residents to sue violators. A trio of Tesla owners in California have filed a proposed class action suit accusing the automaker of making false claims about the estimated driving ranges of its vehicles. The suit, brought in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, cites a recent Reuters article reporting the company decided about ten years ago to write algorithms for its vehicles’ in-dash range meters giving drivers “rosy” projections of how far the cars could travel on a fully charged battery. The Iowa Department of Transportation has soft-launched its new Mobile ID app—a digital form of State ID card or driver’s license—to businesses and other groups to make sure they’re able to verify the new IDs. The app is expected to be released to the public next month. (WOWT [DES MOINES])
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) announced a new public awareness campaign aimed at helping protect children from the harmful effects of social media. The “Harms of Social Media on Utah Youth” campaign will include TV ads, billboards and social media posts directing parents to a state website providing resources. (PLURIBUS NEWS)
