Legal professionals have been using AI technologies for years now, starting with extractive AI tools that used machine learning algorithms to find relevant results within data, then followed by generative AI tools that created new content from data based on user-entered prompts or instructions.
LexisNexis is leading the next wave of Legal AI innovation with the recent launch of LexisNexis Protégé, a personalized AI assistant that also leverages the power of agentic AI to intelligently and independently help legal professionals complete legal tasks.
Protégé is a private, trusted AI Assistant that places the user in control and delivers uniquely personalized work product in a private, secure setting. Personalization choices are controlled by the user or their organization to optimize the individual AI experience. This is made possible with the power of new agentic AI technology.
“Agentic AI performs tasks with limited human interaction through software programs known as agents,” reported Law360 Pulse. “By taking action and making decisions, agentic AI differs from generative AI, which focuses more on creating content.”
Protégé leverages proprietary agentic and generative AI technology that is grounded in the law firm’s own documents and past work product securely stored in its Document Management System (DMS), as well as the comprehensive repository of authoritative legal content from LexisNexis. This integrated capability enables legal professionals to achieve a more tailored AI experience.
Here are seven new ways that lawyers can use Protégé to realize next-level work quality and unlock new economic value for themselves and their clients:
Protégé can create full, tailored transactional documents — as well as litigation motions, briefs and complaints — and check its own work before turning the drafts over to legal professionals for final review. Documents can be further edited directly in Lexis+ AI or exported to Microsoft Word.
Protégé allows users to upload up to 500 documents on a given matter to the Protégé Vault, save work securely, and use AI to summarize, draft, research and perform many other tasks.
Protégé can automatically review the types of documents uploaded by the user, suggest a legal work action (e.g., summarize, proofread, draft a complaint, Shepardize® citations, find similar motions), and then dynamically generate follow-up prompts that are personalized to the individual’s workflow.
Protégé suggests possible questions to ask of a witness in a deposition, based on fact patterns, witness descriptions and other relevant information contained inside the securely uploaded case documents.
Protégé instantly processes facts and dates from uploaded documents and uses this information to create a helpful visual illustration with a graphical timeline of events in a matter.
Protégé can ingest large documents of up to 1 million characters (approximately 300 pages) — a 250% increase over previous processing limits — and produce a concise summary for legal professionals to review and/or use as the basis for asking more precise questions.
Protégé links quotes in litigation fillings back to the original source documents to confirm accuracy and ensure that the cited materials are authentic.
