Vermont Regulates Data Broker Registration

For the first time in the United States, a state has regulated the conduct of data brokers who buy and sell personal information. Vermont’s data broker statute, Vt. Stat. tit. 9. §§ 2446, 2447 imposes significant requirements on data brokers who do business in the state, including registration, disclosure of practices, and implementation of security safeguards.
