AALL Recap: LexisNexis Introduces Law Library Professionals to Lexis+ AI ®

More than 1,400 legal information professionals converged in Boston this week for the 2023 American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Annual Meeting and LexisNexis was at the center of the conference’s engaging discussions and innovative programming focused on the future of the industry, with a spotlight on artificial intelligence (AI).

Our theme for this year’s event was “Meet Lexis+ AI™” and we showcased this exciting new offering in a variety of ways at the conference. The venues included live booth demonstrations, theater sessions and special programs. Hundreds of legal information professionals saw the capabilities of Lexis+ AI up close.

AALL attendees witnessed how LexisNexis is pioneering the use of generative AI for legal research, drafting, and summarization with a focus on reliability, consistency, and data security — enabling legal professionals to achieve better outcomes and advance the rule of law. In fact, we have been using generative AI in our research and development labs for more than a year.

Lexis+ AI is a generative AI platform that will transform legal work. It is built and trained on the largest repository of legal content, which means it will provide legal professionals with trusted, comprehensive legal results that are backed by verifiable and citable authority.

In our “Meet Lexis+ AI” sessions, we discussed the opportunity to pair our unsurpassed legal content with breakthrough generative AI technology in a way that could redefine the way that legal research is conducted and legal work product is created. Specific applications that we envision for the near future include building electronic legal assistants, drafting legal documents, performing contract evaluation, and summarization of documents.

In addition to this opportunity to introduce Lexis+ AI to law library professionals, LexisNexis was proud to return as a Platinum Sponsor for AALL 2023 and to serve as an official supporter of notable events at the show. For example, AALL attendees packed the room for a number of educational programming sessions we participated in, such as:

  • ESG Unwrapped: Understanding, Researching, and Staying Current.
  • AI Unleashed: Revolutionizing the Legal Industry with Generative AI and Lexis+ AI.
  • Real World APIs: Who Is Using Them and What Are They Doing with Them; and
  • The Impact of Generative AI for Access to Justice

The LexisNexis booth in the AALL Exhibit Hall was also a whirlwind of activity throughout the conference, serving as a hub for industry professionals to meet with colleagues and learn more about key innovations and new tools. We were pleased to offer a variety of short topical presentations in our private booth theater, including practical sessions that offered tips for news research, Shepard’s, and helpful legal research toolkits and resources for legal information professionals.

One of the highlights in the booth was our hosted Champagne Bar to celebrate the 150th birthday of Shepard’s Citation Service, the professional standard for the most comprehensive editorial analysis of case law, statutes, regulations and administrative decisions. More than 250 law library professionals joined us for a toast to Shepard’s and some professional networking.

The booth excitement was also stirred up by the presentation of the AALL New Product of the Year Award to LexisNexis for our Lexis+ Fact & Issue Finder tool, which provides a unique litigation-specific search experience that helps litigators find all of the materials they need to evaluate a case quickly, with precision, all in one place and in a manner that mimics their workflow.

Of course, we are always focused on innovation and what lies ahead for the industry. So we were pleased to showcase two new products that we have been developing with the input of legal information professionals: (1) Lexis+® Agreement Analysis, which uses AI to reduce the manual tasks that accompany researching, negotiating and finalizing transactional agreements; and (2) Lexis® Create, the most intelligent legal drafting tool currently in development.

Other products demonstrated at this year’s meeting included:

The AALL Annual Meeting & Conference is where the legal information community assembles for the latest educational programming, peer-to-peer connections, and to exchange ideas and best practices. We were delighted to engage with industry participants from coast to coast again this year.

Please join us in marking your calendars for July 20-23, 2024, when the AALL Annual Meeting comes to Chicago! We’ll see you there.
