Advancing What’s Possible at Legalweek 2018

Analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and robot lawyers were top of mind during Legalweek 2018, one of the legal industry’s preeminent technology conferences, held at the New York Hilton in Midtown. More than 8,000 attendees from legal firms and legal departments across the country attended the January 29 – February 1 event.

LexisNexis was at the forefront of the analytics and AI conversation, emphasizing a commitment to developing innovative new technologies and applications. LexisNexis conveyed the message “Advancing What’s Possible” via booth visuals, product demos, conversations with industry thought influencers, and a keynote session on analytics and the future of the data-driven lawyer.

In this 84-second video, Jeff Pfeifer, vice president of product management, and Josh Becker, CEO of Lex Machina, provide their thoughts on the Legalweek events, recorded live from the show.

Visiting the LexisNexis booth

Legalweek participants engaged with vendors on the latest technology available in the industry today. Attendees visited the LexisNexis booth—bearing the Advancing What’s Possible message—to engage with staff, watch brand story videos and take in demos of the Lexis Advance® and Lexis Practice Advisor® solutions, advanced analytics tools from Lex Machina® and Ravel Law, and our Law Practice Management portfolio.

Video content available at a kiosk in the booth updated visitors on technology innovations and the LexisNexis brand story:

  •  Advancing What’s Possible
  •  Advancing Technology Innovation
  •  Advancing Together

More than 90 booth visitors experienced this photo stop and then shared brief, written insights on how they are advancing today’s legal practice. Photos were fed into a live digital mosaic on our video wall at the show in real time. Shown here testing the photo stop are Jon Georgopulos, Rachel Travers and Jeff Pfeifer from LexisNexis.

Exploring the theme “Advancing What’s Possible,” booth visitors enjoyed videos and a range of product demonstrations.

Analytics & AI buzz

On the second day of the Legalweek show, LexisNexis released results of a recent survey conducted in partnership with ALM Intelligence on the impact of legal analytics within The Am Law 200® law firms. This survey included insights around adoption rates, use cases and the value legal analytics brings to the practice of law. For more information about the results of the survey, download the LexisNexis white paper and infographic.

The findings of this survey were prominently showcased during Wednesday’s Fireside Chat keynote session, “Legal Analytics and the Future of Data-Driven Law,” which was led by Josh Becker, Lex Machina CEO. After an engaging presentation on the state of legal analytics today, Becker was joined by panel moderator Patrick Fuller, senior director at ALM Intelligence, and Scott Reents, lead attorney, data analytics & e-discovery at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, for a discussion around the benefits of advanced technology for the legal industry and live questions from the audience.

Becker led a Legalweek 2018 keynote session titled “Legal Analytics and the Future of Data-Driven Law,” attended by more than 350 attendees. He was then joined on stage by panel moderator Patrick Fuller, senior director at ALM Intelligence (left), and Scott Reents, lead attorney, data analytics & e-discovery, at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP (right) for a live Fireside Chat and questions from the audience.

“Legal analytics continues to reshape both the business and practice of law for corporations and law firms, while also driving the development of new innovations and practical applications. What’s exciting is that the industry has barely scratched the surface of the technology’s true potential. These new findings validate the heavy focus LexisNexis has on analytics, which empowers lawyers to make better, faster and smarter data-driven decisions and focus on higher-value work.”

—Josh Becker, CEO of Lex Machina

On the final day of the show, both LexisNexis and Lex Machina were presented with a Legal AI Leaders award from The National Law Journal® for leadership, innovation and product excellence in AI for the legal industry.
