The State Law Comparison Tool in Lexis Practice Advisor® allows attorneys to efficiently compare laws across multiple states for a variety of practice areas and topics.

Excel chart functionality enables you to analyze state legal issues side by side, or you can review the state law comparisons one after the other in a Word or PDF document.

Here’s how to use the tool

To access the State Law Comparison Tool, sign in to the Lexis Practice Advisor service and click one of the covered practice areas:

Go to the State Law Comparison Tool pod and click Get Started.

Then select your practice area and topic …

Choose jurisdictions and click Continue.

Select one or more questions for your chart or report.

Click the Download Report button.

And select the format you prefer. You can customize the Filename as well.

After you click Download, you will quickly receive the chart or report you requested.

Sample scenarios

Here are just a few of the scenarios where the State Law Comparison Tool can be especially useful:

Screening and Hiring. Can your client or company ask about a job applicant’s criminal history on its employment applications in California and Massachusetts? And if there is such a prohibition (i.e., a ban-the-box law), what are the requirements? You can choose this question: “Does the Jurisdiction Have Ban-the-Box Requirements?”
