Newest release of legal research service delivers more search and analytical power, enhanced mobile experience and unparalleled legal news content

March 2, 2016 — LexisNexis® Legal & Professional today announced the latest release of its legal information service, Lexis Advance®—delivering greater search power, providing access to the legal industry’s largest news archive and launching a new predictive analytics and data visualization tool called Legislative Outlook, which indicates the probability of a bill’s passage.

“We are continually evolving Lexis Advance based on customer feedback. The enhancements announced today offer our users better and faster ways to complete research tasks. Legislative Outlook is an exciting example of this approach as it introduces a visual display of information along with advanced, predictive analytics that project the future progression of a bill,” said Jeff Pfeifer, vice president of Product Management for the North American Research Solutions business at LexisNexis. “With an unmatched set of content, we are able to layer powerful analytics solutions to deliver insights behind the raw data — empowering legal and business professionals to make confident, informed decisions.”

With the recent addition of award-winning Legal Analytics® provider Lex Machina, as well as successful analytics tools including LexisNexis MedMal Navigator®, LexisNexis® Verdict and Settlement Analyzer and Legislative Outlook in market, LexisNexis is the leader in legal analytics and well-positioned to create a portfolio of next generation analytics solutions across a wide variety of practice areas and content types.

Legislative Outlook is available for federal and state bills, helping users identify relevant legislation, understand political factors impacting movement, and anticipate upcoming hurdles. Functionality includes a Legislative Outlook Gauge that is visible in the text of a bill and in bill-tracking documents, providing an indication of whether a bill will pass at the next stage of legislation by analyzing state legislative patterns, key probability indicators and historical patterns to forecast probable future outcomes. The solution also offers a Legislative Progress Bar that visually represents the status of a bill as well as a Legislative Outlook in Detail document that shows the probability of passage for each stage in the legislative process and other information such as political details, bill-sponsor details and forecast factors.

Access to the entire LexisNexis News Archive—a collection dating back 60 years—is another major enhancement for Lexis Advance announced today, which emphasizes the status of Lexis Advance as the must-have source for news and business intelligence. The news archive, which previously was only fully available via lexis.com®, offers Lexis Advance users access to a comprehensive legal and business news collection, including exclusive, must-have news sources such as The Washington Post®, The New York Times® and legal-market exclusives such as The Wall Street Journal® and ALM® publications.

Additionally, Lexis Advance now features a broad array of updates developed in close collaboration with customers, primarily focusing on useful tools for power users, more flexible options for delivering custom results and improved mobile functionality. Most notably:

  • Back-of-the-Book Indices – Lexis Advance receives its first set of back-of-the-book indices from often-used publications, including many popular Matthew Bender treatises, allowing users to browse levels, as well as search for a specific topic throughout the index.
  • Document Segments – Users now have the option to find relevant documents faster by using the 60+ new document segments—all added to the applicable Advanced Search forms.
  • Lexis Practice Advisor: Forms Index – This new Lexis Practice Advisor functionality offers subscribers a quick view of all forms with the ability to filter by practice area and type, as well as look up by keyword—showcasing all Forms available in the tool in an alphabetical index.
  • Mobile Experience – The Lexis Advance Mobile Apps for iPad and iPhone also received a series of updates, including section headers in results list, additional segments, inclusion of full archived news content and search/relevance enhancements. iPad users will be able to utilize more delivery options and navigate search results more easily, and see improvements to the Advance Search Form and Copy with Cite functionality.

These features, along with others such as the precise “Explore Content” source-selection filter and results organization tool launched in January, are prime examples of the LexisNexis investment in delivering tools tailored specifically for power users that not only produces timely, high-value capabilities customers want, but also helps ease their transition to next generation researching, bringing some of their preferred feature/functionality from lexis.com to Lexis Advance.
