- California: The California Supreme Court holds that there is a good faith defense to the statutory penalties under Lab. Code § 226(e)(1)for failure to comply with wage statement information requirements. The Court finds that the defendant employer did not knowingly and intentionally fail to comply with the wage statement information requirements in Cal. Lab. Code § 226(a) by not including unpaid meal premiums in its employees' wage statements, because the employer reasonably and in good faith believed that its wage statements were complete and accurate in compliance with the statute. See Naranjo v. Spectrum Sec. Servs., Inc., 2024 Cal. LEXIS 2438 (May 6, 2024).
- New York: New York City amends its Human Rights Law to prohibit provisions in employment agreements that shorten the period in which claims and complaints of unlawful discriminatory practices, harassment, or violence may be filed and in which civil actions may be commenced. See Int 0069-2024.
