"If you or someone you know has or had a problem while in immigration detention, the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO) can help. OIDO is an independent office within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). OIDO is NOT a part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is NOT a part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). OIDO is an office within oversight entities and was established by Congress (Sec. 106 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act). OIDO assists individuals with complaints about the potential violation of immigration detention standards or other misconduct by DHS (or contract) personnel and provides oversight of immigration detention facilities. David Gersten currently serves as the Acting Immigration Detention Ombudsman at the Department of Homeland Security.  Learn more about how to receive assistance regarding a concern related to conditions of immigration detention or an incident that occurred while in immigration detention:
