Nevada Gross Misdemeanor Statute Modified to 364 Days

"Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval last week signed into law a bill that did not get much press, reducing the maximum penalty for a "gross misdemeanor" from 1 year or less to 364 days. This change will help ensure that noncitizens convicted of minor state offenses will not be subject to automatic deportation as "aggravated felons" under U.S. under immigration law.

Congrats to UNLV law professor Angela Morrison, who testified in the Nevada legislature in support of the law, S.B. SB 169. Here is her written statement.  Download Testimony SB 169 Assembly" - Kevin Johnson, June 3, 2013.
