NC Budget Would Preempt Local Government Minimum Wage Rates

The state budget (HB 259) approved largely along party lines this month in North Carolina’s Republican-controlled legislature includes a provision that would prohibit local governments and municipalities from setting a minimum wage or imposing other employment-related mandates on private businesses. Workplace Violence Bill Awaits Gov’s Action in CA

A bill (SB 553) passed by the California Legislature and sent to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Sept. 20 would require employers to develop workplace violence prevention plans, maintain records on workplace incidents and provide workers training on violence prevention. Kacey Riccomini, a partner at the law firm of Thompson Coburn in Los Angeles, said she expected the governor to sign the measure. (SHRM, STATE NET)
