Biography:

John Marquis is an experienced barrister and former police prosecutor with a distinguished career in criminal and traffic law. He served for seven years as the Officer in Charge of the Research and Training Section of the Prosecutions Division of the Victoria Police Force, where he played a key role in legal education and policy development.

A long-standing member of the Victorian Bar, John specialises in traffic and criminal law. He has been actively involved in legal training, having contributed to the Victorian Bar Readers’ Course and serving for over 20 years as a senior instructor at the Leo Cussen Practical Training Course, where he taught criminal law, evidence, and advocacy.

John is also a respected legal writer, with contributions to Motor and Traffic Law Victoria and Practical Guidance Criminal.
