LexisNexis Legal Department and Telephonic Solutions Consultants Co-Host Wills for Heroes Event with Dayton Bar Association

On Global LexisNexis Cares Day 2016, the LexisNexis Legal Department teamed up with the Telephonic Solutions Consultants and the Dayton Bar Association to host a Wills for Heroes Event at the Dayton Bar Association offices.

Wills for Heroes is a Dayton Bar Association program that offers an estate planning clinic for first responders: police, fireman, paramedics, and military personnel.  In total, 20 LexisNexis employees prepared estate planning documents for 36 heroes over the course of the day.

LexisNexis has made contributions to the Wills for Heroes program from its infancy by donating laptops for the clinic as well as the Hot Docs software program that is used to assemble the estate planning documents.  In addition to our employees volunteering and providing pro bono services at the multiple clinics held each year around Dayton, LexisNexis has even hosted the clinics at its Dayton facilities in the past.

During the event, our teams first attended an hour-and-a-half training/refresher session on the applicable Ohio probate laws.  Promptly following the training, we met with clients and talked with the many wonderful first responders to make sure their wills and health care power of attorney documents or living wills were in order.  Non-attorneys helped with witnessing and notarizing the documents that were prepared during the clinic.   At the conclusion of the day, the team celebrated the event’s success with a happy hour at Pizzeria Uno.  In addition to providing an important legal service to our community, the attorneys in attendance were eligible to earn 1.5 hours of CLE credit for the training portion of the day as well as 1 hour of CLE for each 6 hours of pro bono service that they provided.
