After files are imported into a case and a case index is created, CaseMap performs OCR (optical character recognition) processing on image files so that the text content can be indexed for full-text searching. CaseMap runs the OCR process in the background. You can continue working in the case file but should to wait to search data or annotate files until processing completes and the case is updated with the latest information.
CaseMap OCR processes imported files one at a time until all files in the queue succeed. Once OCR processing completes, CaseMap will update the case index. You can then view the image files, navigate search hits, and annotate images in DocManager.
You can easily check the case's OCR status by placing your cursor over the OCR icon in the lower right corner of CaseMap. An OCR is idle message displays on the status bar when no files are in queue for OCR processing. You can disable OCR processing on your computer. Other case user's computers that have OCR enabled will process imported files and update the case for you.
It is best to wait until CaseMap performs OCR on the file's text content and then make annotations on the image. Annotations made on an image after it has been OCR processed will not display in the printed output. Additionally, annotations will not display in the same location in the image file after CaseMap indexes the image. |
